David Lipscomb University in Nashville served as host for the state basketball tournament Friday, March 13th through Sunday, March 15th. With five teams competing, KDS was sure to make a good showing! All athletes had a great time competing, receiving awards, and making new friends at the dance. Katie began the procession for the Area 6 delegation. Area 6 fielded one of the largest delegations at the tournament.

KDS students Ben and Tim are Special Olympic (SO) Global Messengers. Ben led the Pledge of Allegiance and Tim led the athletes with
the SO Oath…Let me win, but if I can not win, let me be brave in the attempt. A David Lipscomb basketball player sits with Ben and Tim.

The Unified 8-15 Year Olds went 3-0 for the tournament. The kids really played their hearts out.

Dr. Craig and Michael take a break from their game to cheer on KDS athletes.

The traditional teams all played on the main floor in the arena. Court side seats provided opportunity for some great pictures.

KDS/Area 6 made a great showing at the medal ceremony - Jokers - 1st place in Unifed 8-15 year olds, Jacks - 4th place Unified 16-22 year olds, Jennies - 3rd place Traditional,

Monarchs - 4th place Traditional, and Mules - 1st place Traditional. All the awards were presented by Tennessee Titans DB Cortland Finnegan.
He presented each athlete with their medal and graciously posed for pictures and signed autographs.

The offical events ended Saturday evening with a St. Patrick's Day theme dance attended by all the participants. KDS students and staff
have some really smooth dance moves.

Tra'Shawn, Patrick, Ashlyn, and Kevin really have some moves. Bradley is enjoying the Twist and Ashley loves the YMCA!

Everyone loves a good Chicken Dance!

Dancing to My Girl and many other songs, everyone is having a great time!

The Macarena, a Locomotion train, and Cotton Eyed Joe are all dance favorites!

Everyone had a really great time, a special thanks to Shannon Lanius, KDS Recreational Therapist and Area 6 Director.
She does a great job making sure everyone is safe, on track and having fun. Thanks for the great time!
